Cobalt changelog
Version 2.0.0
The save file format is identical to the format used by version 1.0.0.
Sketch layer
Added a new single-colour sketch layer. This is intended as an aid while painting, and is useful for blocking out composition and lines without affecting the canvas content.
- The eye button in the lower right corner of the canvas screen toggles visibility of the sketch layer and reveals the sketch toolbar. While this button is toggled on, the sketch layer will be visible.
- The pencil button on the sketch toolbar toggles editing of the sketch layer and reveals a colour picker. While this button is toggled on, the drawing tools will affect the sketch layer, either drawing to or erasing from the sketch layer.
- The canvas button on the sketch toolbar toggles visibility of the canvas. While this button is toggled on, the canvas will be hidden and only the sketch layer will be shown.
- The slider button on the sketch toolbar opens the edit colour screen and allows the sketch layer colour to be changed.
New image screen
The new image screen has been redesigned to be faster to use.
- Images no longer need to be named when created. Instead, a name can be entered when the image is saved for the first time.
- Hovering over the width and height controls will display a preview of the actual size of the new image over the screen.
Tool settings screen
The tool settings screen has been redesigned to be more legible, and a new tool option has been added.
- The tool palette has been moved to the left edge of the screen, the same position as on the canvas screen.
- A “fine brush strokes” toggle has been added, and applied to all tools. While this option is toggled on, brush strokes drawn using sparse brush shapes will be drawn as thin lines.
Save screen
A save screen has been added, for naming and saving new copies of the current image.
- This screen will open when attempting to save a new image for the first time, so that the image can be given a name.
- This screen can also be opened from the menu screen, to save a copy of the current image under a new name.
Reorder palette
A reorder palette screen has been added, for changing the order of the colour palette.
- This screen can be opened by clicking on the colour selector in the edit palette screen.
Nintendo DS support
Cobalt is now available as a Nintendo DS ROM file.
- The ROM file can be run on a Nintendo DS emulator or on a Nintendo DS console via a flashcart.
- The emulator or flashcart must support DLDI in order for Cobalt to load or save images.
